Avery's Antics

Here it is folks...the first venture into blogging...and it has to be about the clown prince of Broadway...Sean Avery!

Is it almost time for his time to be up? His performance last night almost cost the Rangers the game, and he, and his team-mates can thank King Henrik for that. It is to the point now where he isn't even interesting when he plays...you just wish he would go away. On 2 occasions last night in the third, Sean took 2 penalties that were a direct result of his selfishness. He races to the end boards in the Caps zone to beat an icing, and swings his arm around and whacks a Caps d-man in the face. He tries to make it look like an accident...but, that's never the case. Then he high-sticks another player in the face...and was lucky to only get the 2 minutes. I swear that the refs were actually giving him a free pass for awhile last night, but, that had to come to an end with so many close calls.

The thing that really bugs me about Avery, is that he really isn't all that good. I get sick and tired of people saying 'the guy can play', or, 'he is an impact player when he wants to be'. Well...I also heard that about Tie Domi in the heyday of his Leaf years, and that wasn't really the case. He can control the puck well, at times, and has the ability to be a great energy player...but, every team has 2 or 3 of those guys, and they don't come close to costing their respective teams games like Avery does. Teams will not miss him when he doesn't play. Despite a horrendous season in Dallas, they actually started to excel when he was suspended. And what was with all the yapping at Caps goalie Simeon Varlamov? Varlamov can't speak a lick of English...so...it's like a mosquito on an elephant...there is no reaction! It looked like Varlamov was ignoring Sean...but, he just couldn't understand him.

I am sure (for the next few years anyway) that teams will continue to give Avery chances, as it will probably sell some tickets in certain markets, but, his act is tiring, and boring. It's like watching Terrell Owens celebrate in football. Sure, it was amusing for a couple of years...but, now you cringe anytime he tries to 'strut' a catch or touchdown. You just wish it would end...although I am certain Caps fans are cheering him on for a few more adventures this Spring!

Playoff Observing

Alright...let's get to my first venture into blogging. I could tell you a bit about myself, but, I can save that 'til another time. I am a hockey fan, and that's what I be blogging about. Playoff observations are on the way!
